I just discovered an interesting use of SecondLife that I thought was worth documenting and sharing. The Australian presence in SL contains a series of teleport destinations depicting 360 degree views of a particular aspect of Circular Quay in Sydney.
By selecting an option from the teleport menu you are transported to a room containing a series of seamlessly situated still images of the landmark. You’re then able to pan around and gain an appreciation of what it would look like if you were actually in that location in real life. …

The presentation embedded above has been prepared for a discussion of last week’s NMC Virtual Symposium 2008 I’m presenting for my department’s monthly Research Showcase. With only 30 minutes to cover the presentation and subsequent discussion I’ve unfortunately had to be brutal in what I leave out – so if you’re work wasn’t included please don’t take it personally. The NMC Virtual Symposium officially began today with an Opening Reception, complete with scavenger hunt, live music and dancing. It was a wonderful beginning to what looks to be an engaging and enjoyable experience. I’ll be capturing screen clips of the event using CamStudio over the next two days and will be posting them on my YouTube Channel.
I’m also amassing a Flickr Set of still images from the event. This is available here.
In all likelihood they’ll just be raw shots rather than edited to include different camera …
