According to the BBC News and others, newly elected US President Barack Obama has requested a document detailing the benefits of open source technologies.  The BBC article indicates Scott McNealy, co-founder of Sun Microsystems, has been asked to contribute to the project.
With the economy currently in as much turmoil as it is, the move to investigate open source is not surprising – indeed it makes perfect sense.  So too would such a technological shift be in keeping with the promises of openness that the President seems keen to foster.

Call me an uber geek, but I just finished setting up Compiz on my Ubuntu box tonight and wanted to share a screencast of where I’m at so far. Compiz is a brilliant piece of work that I highly recommend taking a look at. It definitely keeps things visually stimulating.

Update: This wiki project has been discontinued due to a combination of lack of usage on my part, as well as an influx of spam.
I’ve been meaning to launch a wiki for quite some time and have finally got ’round to doing it. After going back and forth on a platform for ages I’ve finally settled on a fairly customised instance of Drupal that I’ve outfitted to feature many of the same sorts of wiki functionality people are accustomed to in MediaWiki. It was a technically frustrating day yesterday.  I recently purchased the newest release of Neverwinter Nights 2 (a role playing game) in the hopes of doing something not work related in the evenings for a change.  Alas it wasn’t meant to be and I instead spent about 6 hours last night rebuilding the machine after a series of interventions that ultimately rendered XP unusable and Ubuntu wiped from the face of the map.

The buzz was alight today in the wake of the launch of new microblogging tool, Identi.ca with many of the usual early adopting suspects dashing to the new site to experiment with anything and everything.
