Presentation on Open Ed: Feedback Wanted

I’m going to be facilitating/instigating a discussion on Open Education at the next UNSW Network of Faculty Educational Developers and have just finished my presentation slides for the event and would appreciate feedback on the content I’ve included.

There is a total of 20 to 25 minutes in which to present the theme and hold the discussion, so I’ve had to leave a fair bit out and yet still want to do this complex topic justice.

My aim is not to take up too much time in the presentation portion, but instead leave plenty of room for cross-talk and discussion, since that is the primary purpose of the network. I’ve therefore attempted to provide a basic overview of some key events in the history of open education, highlight what I consider to be two emerging schools of thought in the Open Ed/OER conversation, provide some examples of open education and OER in practice, and then lead into a discussion on the opportunities, challenges and implications that open education have for traditional schools and institutions.

Any feedback, critique or suggestions would be much appreciated. In particular, I’m hoping to hear whether I’ve captured the most significant moments in the history of open education, or if I’ve inadvertently left out something major.

As with my last presentation for UNFED on CCK, I’m hoping to record my presentation again and if it turns out ok I’ll post it here.
