Subscribing to blog comments using Thunderbird

I just prepared the following tutorial and screencast for a colleague and wanted to post it here as well in case it’s useful.

Step One: Download Thunderbird and install on your machine as per the instructions.

Step Two: Select File -> New -> Account… Tick “RSS News & Blogs” and follow the prompts.

Step Three: Click on the heading of your new RSS News & Blogs category and click Manage Subscriptions in the main page.  In the pop-up that appears, click Add.

Step Four: Locate the RSS feed for the content you wish to subscribe to and enter the link in the Feed URL field.  On WordPress blogs this feed link is found in the Meta section.  You can also typically click on the orange RSS icon in the main address field of your browser.  This will show you the available RSS feeds.

Once entered into the Feed URL field click OK, and Thunderbird will search for the most recent content.

Step Five: Upon completion, the window will close and you will see a new listing of the site beneath the RSS News and Blogs category.  Click on the name of the site will display a selection of recent content from the feed.
