SecondLife: 360 Degrees of Sydney Harbour

28 November 2008 3 Comments

I just discovered an interesting use of SecondLife that I thought was worth documenting and sharing. The Australian presence in SL contains a series of teleport destinations depicting 360 degree views of a particular aspect of Circular Quay in Sydney.

By selecting an option from the teleport menu you are transported to a room containing a series of seamlessly situated still images of the landmark. You’re then able to pan around and gain an appreciation of what it would look like if you were actually in that location in real life.

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for this interesting Second Life posting, it’s eye opening.
I have always enjoyed your posts, they are spectacular, and always filled with fun and excitement.
I could see your enthusiasm in this connectivism movement. May I invite you to comment and/or join in the suggested initiative on Wiki/Ning on connectivism? Please see forum post or my blog http://suifaijohnmak.wordpress.com
Thank you so much for your consideration.
    Cheers.
    John

Very very cool… this certainly a way of viewing Sydney that we haven’t seen before. Could be all sorts of tourism possibilities in the 2nd life adventure of Sydney… and the rest of the world for that matter. Jamie S.A.
