Duncan Riley asks What To Broadcast About?

12 April 2008 No Comment

In a post on his blog yesterday (“What To Broadcast About?“), Duncan Riley sent out an open request for feedback on an idea he’s been musing upon, saying:

“So I’ve been playing with Live streaming services and I want to do something more regular, but not 100% on what. I love what Chris Pirillo does, but the subject matter is a little tame for me. Open to suggestions, on topic, format and even streaming service of choice.”

He’s followed this up with a clip on YouTube (embedded below) echoing the same sentiment, and with a few colourful euphemisms thrown in during the first few seconds (translation: swear alert).

I’m quite a fan of Duncan’s work and only too happy to throw my 2¢ into the discussion and have posted a reply clip on YouTube covering my thoughts (embedded below).  Unfortunately this goes to show that I’m more engaging in text than I am in presence, however hopefully my message isn’t lost amidst the softspoken bumbling.

The main points that I wanted to make are:

Thoughts on Topics:

- Australian tech companies, national usage habits and consumer trends
- Open source news, trends, and comparisons with comparable proprietary software
- Educational technology; ideally including use cases, but this might perhaps be a bit too niche

Suggestions on Format:

I haven’t watched too many web casts historically so I’m not sure what’s common; but I think a mixed format might work well with segments including op/ed, current tech news, focused use cases, potentially two-way discussion with callers/chatters and/or guests

Thoughts on Streaming Service:

- Definitely not Yahoo Live
- Ideally something that can be referred back to later, and especially embedded elsewhere to facilitate further discussion
- I have no major opinion between Justin.TV and UStream; both seem good.

If you’re a follower and/or fan of Duncan’s work on TechCrunch and would like to voice your opinions on his broadcast I encourage you to post a comment on his blog or YouTube clip.  People who Duncan is following on Twitter can also send him thoughts through that means as well I’m sure.
