Drupal 6 Now Available

Via Drupal.org (”Drupal 6.0 release” 13 February 2008),

“After one year of development we are ready to release Drupal 6.0 to the world. Thanks to the tireless work of the Drupal community, over 1,600 issues have been resolved during the Drupal 6.0 release cycle. These changes are evident in Drupal 6’s major usability improvements, security and maintainability advancements, friendlier installer, and expanded development framework. Further, from bug fix to feature request, these issues follow-through on the Drupal project’s continued commitment to deliver flexibility and power to themers and developers.”

On the quick glance over of their extraordinarily comprehensive release announcement, the new version is said to be “the easiest version of Drupal ever” with key aspects being a quick and easy set-up, drag-and-drop administration and support of multiple languages.

Several new modules have also been included in the core - Actions and Triggers, Sign in with OpenID, and an Update Status Module. A great deal of attention was paid to covering improvemens in theming, security, performance and maintenance, as well as more minor-but-oh-so-useful modules.

I’m just about to install a test bed on my home server to give Drupal 6 a good going over and assess the new features. So watch this space for updates and evaluation notes, or see the Drupal Category for an index of all Drupal-related posts.

In the meantime, the Drupal site also features a couple of useful videos to get you started:
